Spoon University
During my first year at Wesleyan, I applied, interviewed and was hired to become the Marketing Director for the University’s chapter of Spoon.
I was responsible for managing, scheduling, and leading club meetings on campus, as well as giving duties to the Editorial, Photography, and Videography Directors. I also handled our social media pages. In addition, I organized and marketed several events throughout my tenure in this position. The most successful events are described below.
MILK AND COOKIES FUNDRAISER
We were in need of a bit of extra funding to continue to host fun food-themed events for the student body, so the club planned a fundraiser. I arranged a deal with the closest Insomnia Cookies to donate 200 free cookies in exchange for publicity during the event. We created a Facebook event for the fundraiser, as well as posters that were hung around campus at popular student locations. We scheduled the fundraiser for a Thursday night, and booked a location where we knew there would be a lot of students studying, therefore a high traffic area. We were pleasantly surprised that we completely sold out of both milk and cookies, and exceeded our original fundraising goal by over 100%.
THANKFUL FOR HOT CHOCOLATE AND COOKIES
On the Wednesday before all the students headed home for the Thanksgiving holidays in 2018, the club planned a free event to help students get through the final push in their coursework. We brainstormed, then planned and executed a hot chocolate bar that included toppings such as marshmallows and chocolate candies. Working with the University dining center to obtain ingredients and a location, I booked the event at the campus center during the dinner hour. The event was successful, and students were happy to have a pick-me-up; at one point during the event, we had a line of almost 45 students, a stunning and exciting turnout.
