I joined a student club called Students for Consent and Communication (SFCC) my first year at Wesleyan. The club’s biggest event every year is the annual “Take Back the Night,” an international event that is also a non-profit organization with the mission to end sexual, relationship, and domestic abuse in every form. My role within the organization was to plan this event, including coordinating performers and scheduling locations. I also led many of the communications efforts of the group, including designing the above graphic for campus-wide posters and social media posts. I am proud to have almost doubled the Facebook engagement of the event over two years, and we saw a significant increase of in-person engagement at the march and live student performance.

Sexual Assault Awareness Week

In 2018, I joined a small but powerful group of Wesleyan students that had a vision: to launch a series of events dedicated to spreading awareness, resources, and education about sexual assault and sexual health during the month of April (which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month). We brainstormed, conceptualized, asked departments for funding, planned, scheduled, and finally executed an event packed week.

I helped create social media pages for the annual event on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I also assisted in the design and branding of the Week, seen on the left.

Survivor Solidarity Month

After a successful turnout, Sexual Assault Awareness Week quickly expanded into a month-long series of events called Survivor Solidarity Month by the next April. While most of our interactions promoting Survivor Solidarity Month events are campus-based and in person, I still lead communications on our social media pages that made an exciting impact.

For Survivor Solidarity Month, I was responsible for creating and designing graphics for each of the separate events, as well as supporting the planning of the events. I chose a clear, simple and eye-catching concept that still gave a nod to the Sexual Assault Awareness Week colors, a color palette that was inspired by similar Sexual Assault Awareness campaigns.
